Data masking replaces real sensitive values — names, ID numbers, account details — with realistic but fake substitutes, so data stays usable for testing, development, and analytics without exposing actual personal information. Non-compliance carries some of the steepest penalties in Indian regulatory history — up to ₹250 crore for failing to implement reasonable security safeguards, and up to ₹200 crore for failing to report a breach. Data encryption protects information by making it unreadable without a decryption key — securing data at rest in databases and storage, and in transit as it moves across networks. HawkTech implements enterprise encryption using AES-256 for stored data and TLS with HSTS for data in motion, backed by centralized key management.
Encryption is the control that holds when everything else fails — when a database is exfiltrated, a laptop is stolen, or network traffic is intercepted, encrypted data stays unreadable without the key. Following the same layered approach used by leading cloud security platforms, HawkTech secures data in transit across public networks using Transport Layer Security (TLS) combined with HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), so a connection either stays encrypted or the application becomes inaccessible — never silently unencrypted. Data at rest is protected using symmetric AES-256 encryption, chosen because it is fast enough to protect large volumes of stored data without a performance penalty, while asymmetric encryption is reserved for system backups and secure key exchange, where its stronger two-key model matters more than raw speed. Encryption keys and other secrets — passwords, access tokens, API keys — are managed through a dedicated key management system (KMS), never hardcoded or left alongside the data they protect. Where regulatory or contractual requirements call for it, we also design environments with regional data residency in mind, so data processed in one region isn’t silently transferred or shared across borders.
